1. What these terms cover
These terms apply to the corisco.org website, the Corisco Android app, the Corisco hardware-signer firmware and the Lightning Address service at username@corisco.org (together, "Corisco"). By using Corisco you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use it.
2. Open-source licenses
The Corisco source code is published on GitHub. Your rights to use, copy, modify and distribute the code are set by the license in each repository. Nothing in these terms limits those licenses. These terms cover your use of Corisco and of the services we run.
3. You hold your own keys
Corisco is self-custodial. Your private keys are generated and stored on your hardware signer, not by us. This means:
- We can't access, freeze, move or recover your funds.
- We can't reverse, cancel or refund a payment. Lightning and Spark payments are final.
- If you lose your device and your recovery words, your funds are gone. Nobody, including us, can restore them.
- You are responsible for keeping your device, PIN and recovery words safe and private.
4. Early software
Corisco is under active development. It may contain bugs, including bugs that could cause loss of funds. Features marked beta are still being tested. Only use amounts you can afford to lose, and check the Security page for how the device protects your keys.
5. Third-party networks and services
Corisco relies on systems we don't control, including the Bitcoin and Lightning networks, the Spark protocol and its operators, and a price service used to show balances in fiat. Their availability, fees and behaviour are outside our control, and their own terms may apply to you.
6. The Lightning Address service
- The service is free and provided on a best-effort basis. It may be slow, unavailable or discontinued.
- It never holds your funds. It only creates invoices that pay your own wallet directly, so if it goes down you can still receive payments in other ways.
- Every wallet gets an address by default. You don't have to use it, and you can ask us to deactivate it.
- Usernames are assigned by the service. You don't own a username and we may change the naming scheme.
- We may deactivate an address that is used for fraud, abuse or anything illegal.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use Corisco for anything illegal, and don't try to disrupt, overload or break into the services we run. Good-faith security research is welcome. Please follow the rules on our Security page.
8. Your responsibilities
- Follow the laws that apply to you, including tax and reporting rules.
- Only install the app and firmware from our official GitHub releases.
- Check payment details before you approve a payment.
9. No warranty
Corisco is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, security and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Corisco contributors are not liable for any loss arising from your use of Corisco. This includes lost funds, lost data, lost profits, and indirect or consequential damages. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Corisco after a change, you accept the updated terms.
